Evaluation

To begin making a prototype, our group referenced the AEIOU framework that typically includes activities, environments, interactions, objects, and users. This helped us develop an organization map that mostly considered the activities, interactions, and users.

The organization map was made visual with icons to represent the different elements and people involved. We also developed a mission and vision and made a user journey map showing how a local musician can find out about the organization and what his membership would be like. Our organization’s visual identity was defined, as well. This was all combined on an 11x17" poster that we brought to John Beeler of Asthmatic Kitty records for feedback.

Since we added more descriptions to our map, it made the prototype more complex. We realized that we needed a way to break up the information so it would be easier to digest. We turned our prototype into a Prezi, which allowed us to pace the content.

We brought our revised prototype to Derrick Feldmann because, as the founder and president of Achieve, he has a lot of experience with non-profits and businesses.

Derrick’s feedback was very realistic. He confirmed that this organization makes sense to function as a non-profit. Considering that, he gave us advice about funding, management, logistics, and other general tips. He also thought the organization appeared too top-down and our map didn’t fully explain where people fit in and didn’t express how the organization can benefit them.

We implemented this feedback in our final prototype.

Since we determined the components of our organization,
it was time to make a  prototype that would easily explain it all.

How might we create a prototype of our musician organization that we can bring to an industry expert to get feedback on?

How might we get feedback on a revised prototype of our organization from an outside perspective?

11

For our next evaluation method, we wanted to get feedback from a perspective outside of the music industry that would help guide us with some of the logistics of the organization structure.

These are main suggestions that John had for us:

It was important for us to talk to John because he has a lot of knowledge about Indy and the music scene in general. We wanted to be able to make improvements to the content of the organization before bringing it to someone outside of the music industry.

We gave him the poster to read at his own pace and then had a discussion where he gave us feedback on how to improve the structure and the map.

add more description

Based on what John told us, we revised our prototype. The main changes we made in the content included switching the database to a blog and adding descriptions. We also changed the format to better fit our next evaluation method and we came up with a working name for our organization, “Indy Music Unite!”
